Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
An introduction to the basic techniques required to investigate questions in the overlap of quantum mechanics and relativity employing novel tools in quantum information and quantum metrology. Students will learn about the effects of space-time, motion and gravity on quantum properties such as entanglement, and their effects on paradigmatic quantum communication protocols. Applications of quantum metrology to relativistic quantum fields aimed at estimating spacetime parameters will be discussed.Course objectives: To learn techniques in quantum field theory in curved spacetime, quantum information and quantum metrology. To learn how to integrate the techniques mentioned above to study fundamental effects and applications in the overlap of quantum theory and relativity.Course methods: Exercise classes and student seminars.
Assessment and permitted materials
Completing the exercises given each week (0-10 points, minimum 5 to pass). Please hand in at each exercise class a list with the exercises you have completed.
Either solving correctly the exercises when asked to pass to the blackboard, or presenting a final written exercise exam (0-10 points, minimum 5 to pass). Students will be asked to present a paper as a short seminar which will me marked and contribute to 30% of the final mark.
