Aims, contents and method of the course

Content
History, theory and ästhetics/poetics of Classical Hollywood Cinema from the end of the Silent Era until the early 1960s.

Objectives
Understanding of the diverse contexts of film history, approaches of film historiography. Knowledge of elemental historical facts. Understanding of the "standard model" of film style and production.

Assessment and permitted materials

Open book exam, online, 4 dates. First date: 25th June
half-open questions, points for every questions, positive if more the 50% of the possible points are achieved. Automated plagiarism check,
all helping tools (books, internet) are allowed if referenced. Answered generated by AI (Chat GPT and other apps) are considered as plagiarism.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

50% of all possible points = positive grade. General understanding of the themes and factually correct answers are expected.
