Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Study trip (excursion, including preparation and post-excursion review) to the historically important sites in the Republic of Georgia, with special focus on the middle ages and on the relations between Byzantium and Georgia.Research on the interaction of Byzantium with the Caucasus regions, especially Georgia.Guided as well as independent work by students to gain a deeper understanding of objects of material culture, through visits of archaeological sites, churches, monasteries and museums.
Assessment and permitted materials
Handout (15%), participation in class discussion (25%), presentation during the excursion (30%), presentation at the post-excursion meeting (30%).
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Basic familiarity with the material covered in the courseParticipation in the VO ‘The History of Georgia in the Middle Ages: an Overview’(Dr. Preiser-Kapeller and others, 090109) and VO ‘Georgia: Art and Culture’ (Prof. Theis 080058) is strongly recommended.
