Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The course focuses on the dictatorship of 21 April (1967-1974) in Greece highlighting the international dimensions of the so-called “Greek issue.” In particular, key concepts of the Cold War are examined, especially anti-communism, on which the regime based its legitimacy, as well as the main feature of a radical culture that emerged from the network of the dissidents. The course is mainly relied on the analysis of original textual and visual sources: articles from international journals, as well as clandestine editions, official publications of the regime, photographs, posters, political proclamations, and newsreels.
Assessment and permitted materials
The language of presentation and discussion is English. Knowledge of Greek at any level is welcome, however, is not necessary. Thorough preparation of the texts analyzed in class and active course participation is expected.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The course assessment comprises two items, effective class participation and a short presentation from each student.
Examination topics
Material for the preparation of the respective units will be distributed in advance among the participants via the internet.
