Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

In present time, social movements have achieved a major concern, given that they are enrolled in political agency and issues of public interest. Present-day social movements further rely on strategies that are different to those of the 1960s or 1970s. Whereas literature on social movements was by and large dominated byy Sociology and Political Science, Anthropology has further pushed approaches that emphasized 'culture', social relations, etc.
Another most important topic raised in ethnographic research is the question of engagement in this very process in all respect, raising as well issues of 'research refusal'.
This is not a seminar based on empirical research! It is literature centered!
- This seminar will deal with literature from different scientific disciplines in order to introduce students in the many conceptual and theoretical debate.
- There will be no introductory lecture of the teacher! Students will be encouraged to dive into the theme in order to:
a) get trained in research processes;
b) train scholarly debate;
c) get trained in wirting a scholarly paper
d) get trained in visual presentation of their research results.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

Marking:

Marking is dependent of the following criteria:

- Active participation in seminar sessions; 30%

- Final presentation; 30%

- Final paper: 40%:

1) Production of a Paper (3.000 to 4.000 words per student, incl. footnotes and bibliography).

2) Literature - 30%

3) Structure - 30%

4) Argument - 40%

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Active participation at discussions, final paper, and final presentation, all need to be positive.
