Information
Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
The European Union is a globally visible actor in Europe’s external economic relations and it has gradually gained more importance in Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP). Yet, in these two policies, the European Union’s institutions – that are the Commission, the European Parliament and the member states acting through the Council – have very different tasks and decision-making roles. Understanding the institutional architecture and decision-making in these two distinct policies with topical examples such as the Brexit, TTIP or the Ukraine crisis will be the focus of this course.
Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel
This seminar requires regular attendance, active participation and written assignments during term time. Regular attendance is mandatory, especially session 1 is obligatory. No more than two sessions may be missed and any further missed session must be compensated by a written task. Coursework includes two written assignments, one individual and one within a group, one group presentation, individual preparation of weekly readings: replying to random reading checks. Submission of each assignment on time is mandatory. In case of late submission of a written assignment, performance will be lowered per each 24h by a full grade to your detriment. Plagiarized assignments count as no submission. Students will also be asked to attend public events relevant to the seminar topic.
