150180 VU Methods in East Asian Studies (2017S)

The goal of this course is to familiarize students with the basics of quantitative and qualitative research methods in the social sciences. This course will enable participants to formulate their own research questions, design their study, as well as familiarize them with methods of data collection, description, analysis and interpretation. Moreover, the final unit will be devoted to support students in their writing by offering advice on how to structure their manuscripts, and by covering the basics of proper usage of citation and paraphrasing. The course is open to EcoS students who have identified an area of interest they would like to pursue for their Master’s thesis, but who have not yet started working on their thesis.
