Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The focus of this course lies on the works of Jane Austen, both in terms of "traditional" literary studies, and on their transition from page to screen. We will take a close look at the aesthetics and narrative devices of each of Austen's novels, but also at their socio-political agenda(s) and message(s), and inquire into their lasting popularity. In addition, students will be encouraged to watch a number of recent film adaptations of Austen's works, and will be given the chance to investigate how the textual poetics and politics of these novels translate to a different medium.
