Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

This course gives an overview on using different simulation techniques to enhance planning and improvement of the processes and systems behind non-profit organizations. Students learn about the principal functionality of simulations, benefits and drawbacks, and the different areas of applications.
The course focuses on the techniques of system dynamics and discrete event simulations. Several practical examples elaborated by the students will build up the knowledge of system dynamics.
To demonstrate the wide application area of discrete event simulations, we will elaborate an example in emergency medical management in the field of mass casualty incidents. Therefore, we use a discrete event simulation policy model which is applied by the Austrian Samaritan Organization in a workshop setting. The students will learn essential lessons on emergency disaster management, scheduling emergency patients, and training emergency staff at ambulatory services with management games.
