Information
Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung
What role does the European Parliament (EP) have in the European Union (EU)? What shall be its role in future EU politics? With hands-on exercises and practical information, students of this course will explore the tasks and rights of the EP in different areas relevant in current EU politics: in the nomination of the Commission President, in economic and monetary governance, immigration and asylum policy, external trade agreements as well as the EU’s common foreign and security policy. Based on this information, students will discuss the normative implications and what the EP’s role should be in future EU politics.
Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel
Regular attendance is mandatory. No more than two sessions may be missed, and session 1 is mandatory. Coursework includes active class participation, one presentation, one brief outline (one page), one summary and a small paper. Submission of each assignment on time is mandatory. Plagiarized assignments count as no submission. Students may be asked to attend public events relevant to the seminar topic.
