Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The course provides an overview of the role of digital approaches in contemporary cultural and textual studies and the new possibilities they offer. The key topics of the course will concern the use of corpora in linguistics and humanties research, topics on cultural analytics, big data and smart data in the humanities. The course will involve practicum on corpus building and analysis, reading and discussion of papers, exploration of online resources and analysis of methodological issues. The choice of the topics in focus will adjust to the research interests of the students. The aim of the course is to provide the students with digital instruments for text analysis for their doctoral research and to give some basic overview of the current trends in the digital textual studies

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

The assessment consists of the following partial performances:
- careful preparation of the texts to be read and active contributions to the text reviews and discussions. (30%)
- small presentation on the papers which concern students topics of interest (30%)
- oral presentation on the topic agreed upon at the beginning of the semester. (40%)

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

Regular attendance, text reading (30%), positively assessed short presentations (30%) and positively assessed final project (40%); to pass, all sub-parts must be positive and at least 60% must be achieved (100-90% Very Good, 80-89% Good, 79-70% Satisfactory, 69-60% Sufficient).
