Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

The course introduces students to the Uyghur-Mongolian written language of the 17th to 19th centuries. After a brief historical-linguistic overview of the Mongolian languages, students learn to read the Uyghur script and familiarize themselves with the syntax and grammar of the Mongolian written language. The grammar is deepened by reading excerpts from a Mongolian literary text of the 17th century. At the end of the course, students will be able to read a Mongolian source text and translate it with the help of a dictionary.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

The assessment is based on oral performance, three short written tests and a final test. Vocabulary lists are available for the tests.

Regular attendance.
Oral performance: 40%
Written performance: 3 short tests during the course: 30%; final test: 30%.

The grammar discussed in class and small excerpts from the primary literature discussed.
